History

The University Department of Foreign Languages was established in the year 1968. At the beginning, instruction was imparted only for German, by one staff teacher. The course could not be continued, as the lecturer, left the department after two years. One Lecturer for Russian was appointed in 1973 and the University was able to conduct a Diploma course in Russian. It was only in 1978-79 that Lecturers were appointed in German, French and Russian. Department conducted courses up to Advanced Diploma level. A post graduate degree of M.A.in Russian , was also conducted . However M.A. (Russian) had to be discontinued after five years , as two teachers left the Department.

A Lecturer in Chinese was appointed in 1985. Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses were conducted in Chinese. However , the Lecturer left the Department in 1990. An appointment has been made on the post of Assistant Professor in 2008, the courses in Chinese re-started in the same year. Now Chinese section is offering the courses up to the level of Advance Diploma of Proficiency and from 2015 provision had been made to offer the PH.D in Chinese.
